Water has been taken 'FOR GRANTED' by many of us and since long. Drinking water is often not in our priority list for the day. Approximately 50% to 60% of our body weight is that of water. This water is present in all our cells, tissues and organs. Our body does not store water, hence it is important for us to consume it on a regular basis. And the good news is that it helps loose weight!!! What are you waiting for then? Importance of water Maintains body temperature Helps in bowel movement, thereby preventing constipation. Helps in the elimination of waste products from the body through urine, sweat, and stool. Acts as a lubricant and cushion for joints and spinal cord Keeps the skin hydrated and glowing by maintaining its moisture level. In today's lifestyle, we tend to drink more of juices, colas, beer and wines as compared to water! Can u believe that?? Yes it is true!! The lesser the consumption of water, more is the load on the kidney. We eat lot of junk and processed food, and these demand an increase in the intake of water as well. But, alas! we do not give our body that DUE WHICH IT DEMANDS. On the contrary, we keep on feeding it with food, seldom realizing that our body is NOT HUNGRY...IT IS THIRSTY! Tips for increasing this wonder nutrient in your routine: Try to have a glass just before your meal. This helps you control your overeating. Keep water handy at all times, be it office , car, home, gym anywhere, just keep a bottle full with you. Eat more of fruits like watermelon, strawberries, plums, pineapple, peach. Have generous helping of all leafy veg like spinach and lettuce. Also vegetables like cucumber, zucchini and tomatoes are great source of food water. Whenever you feel hungry at odd times, try having a glass full of water first. This will definitely help control your calorie intake. Taking fluids like milk, soups, juices, tea, coffee also adds upto the amount of water consumed in a day. How much is adequate? There is no hard and fast rule as to how much water one should drink. It depends upon various factors like the kind of work you do (sedentary or heavy), the amount you perspire, whether you involved in any physical activity. Also there are certain medical conditions which demand less water intake (like renal failure) and certain needing more (as in lactating mothers). You can check upon these things so as to know that the water that you drink is enough or not. The colour of your urine is clear, i.e not yellow. Your lips are never dried up. You generally do not feel that severe urge to drink water What are you waiting for? Go, GET YOUR GLASS OF WATER NOW!!
