    POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN DISEASE OR SYNDROME

    By: Punita Srivastava

PCOD ( Earlier stage ) and PCOS (Later stage) both are difference name for same disease which has most common hormonal disorder affecting women, associated with ovaries. What is PCOS (PCOD) In your body you have two ovaries. They are use to produce follicles which then grow to form eggs. The eggs then reach into uterus for fertilization, when fertilization doesn't occur, you have your menstrual cycle operating to take care of it. In case of PCOD, follicles are created, but they dont grow into egg. The ovaries keep on generating follicles and then cause too many cysts in it. Eggs are not forming which give rise to menstrual ycle and no fertilization. Ovaries are not functioning properly they continue to make more of male hormones which lead to excess growth of hair or excessive hair fall. PCOD is the most common hormonal reproductive problem in women of childbearing age. An estimated five to 10 percent of women of childbearing age have PCOD. PCOD is condition which affects ovary that can produce different problems to women as below:  Irregular menstrual cycle  Fertility  Hormones changes Insulin production  Heart and blood vessels problems High level of male hormones (Androgens) Appearance CAUSES OF PCOD (PCOS) The exact cause of PCOD is not known but PCOD can cause because of genetic factor. As women with PCOD frequently have mother or sister with PCOD. There are not enough evidence to say there is a genetic link to this order. 1. Lifestyle  2. Diet 3. Stress 4. Obesity 5. Over production of insulin and testosterone 6. No physical activity 7. Fat levels 8. Glucose levels SYMPTOMS Depending on the degree of the hormonal imbalance, the symptoms of PCOD may vary in severity. The symptoms are: 1. Irregular or missed periods 2. Excessive hair growth on the face, around the nipples, or around the lower abdomen 3. Thinning of the hair on the head 4. Obesity 5. Persistent acne 6. Type 2 diabetes or prediabetes 7. Pelvic pain 8. High blood pressure Treatment 1. Blood tests to measure sex hormones 2. Untrasound scanning to check ovarian cyst 3. Heat therapy known as diathermy 4. Anti- diabetic drug to treat insulin resistance DIET DURING PCOD 1. Fresh fruits 2. Non starchy fresh vegetables or frozen/canned vegetables such as broccoli, spinach, and carrots 3. Whole grains such as whole wheat pasta, brown rice, and whole wheat bread 4. High fiber cereals such as Kashi, shredded wheat, and All Bran (Look for cereals that have at least 5 grams of fiber per serving or sprinkle cup of bran cereal or unprocessed bran on a low fiber cereal to increase the fiber) 5. Sugar free or low sugar drinks such as water, diet soda, Crystal Light, Fruits or seltzer water 6. Crackers and snacks with fiber such as Triscuits , Wasa or popcorn Aim to eat 25-30 grams of fiber per day Introduce fiber gradually to your diet to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Choose vegetables such as broccoli, lettuce, celery, cabbage, cucumber, parsley, radishes, spinach, turnips, and watercress. Choose legumes such as fresh cooked kidney beans, soy beans, lentils, black eyed peas, chickpeas, and lima beans. Choose fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, grapefruit, apples, cherries, peaches, pears, and plums. Eat them as snacks, salads, sandwich fillings, in smoothies, soups, and casseroles. Eat protein and and/or fat with every meal or snack Protein has a stabilizing effect on the sugar released from carbohydrates into the blood. Protein can be found in lean meats, fish, poultry, dairy products, beans, nuts and seeds. LIFESTYLE CHANGES Whilst diet is hugely important aspect to tackling PCOS, we must not forget other lifestyle changes that will help to overcome PCOS and its symptoms.  Exercise regularly  Manage stress levels Share the burden and get good support from your family and friends.  Look after yourself and pamper yourself

Does Green tea Really works in loosing weight!!!

    By: Punita Srivastava

The answer is Yes Yes & Yes If you ever wanted to loose weight, you know that one of the best way to go on a diet. Yes the dreaded diet. It takes away all your favourite foods and leaves you left with nothing but carrot sticks and on empty stomach. Or its the only way. Or is it ? It turns out that you can what you love, and still loose weight. All you have to is to follow some of the easy rules and you"ll be on your way to burning fat while still enjoying your favourite foods. Your weight is a balancing act, but the equation is simple : If you eat more calories than you burn, than you gain weight. If you eat fewer calories than you burn you loose weight. All too often we make weight loss much more difficult than it needs to be with exterme diets that leaves us cranky and starving, unhealthy lifestyle choices that undermine our dieting efforts and emotional eating habits that stop us before we get started. Here's 5 tips on how to loose weight by Green tea 1. Start early in the morning: Replace your morning coffee with some green tea. Green tea has caffeine, so it can give you a boost when starting off your mornings, but it can also kick-start your metabolism into action so that you burn more calories all day long. Try to not add too much filler to the tea, however - things like sugar, honey and milk add calories that can counteract with the green tea's weight-loss properties. 2. Drink often: Do not be afraid to drink several cups. There's less caffeine than in a cup of Joe, you don't have to worry so much about feeling jittery and nervous if you double up on your servings. This will also help you feel (and stay) full. You can use green tea as a supplement to meals, as well. Drink a cup before or right after eating, so that you don't eat too much. Do be aware that since green tea contains a diuretic, you may also be visiting the restroom more frequently - but that's not necessarily a bad thing!Water weight counts on the scale, too.( If any medical conditions avoid many times) 3. Must be consumed regularly: When you drink green tea regularly (think every day for several months as opposed to having off and on weeks) you experience extra weight loss benefits. The more you stick to it, the more it trains your body to absorb less fat in the long run. This is a good reason to keep drinking, even if you haven't noticed a lot of benefits in the first couple of days. Some things simply take time, but are worth waiting for. 4. Walk after having it : Green tea does more than kick-start your metabolism. Green tea contains an amino L-theanine. This amino increases your brain wave activity, leading to a more focused, yet calm, piece of mind. Take advantage of this energy by taking a simple walk before starting your day. A simple walk every day can lose up to three pounds per month! 5. Best time: Last but not the least I suggest to have green tea either before meals or in between meals so that it increases the metabolism and helps in early weight loss.

    EXERCISE FOR WEIGHT LOSS

    By: Punita Srivastava

DO YOU KNOW THE HEALTH EFFECTS OF EXERCISE? Exercise and physical activity is not something that you just do extra in your life to get extra healthy. Rather, it's something that's absolutely necessary for normal function Exercise benefits the body in ways that go far beyond muscle tissue and burning fat. We were meant to exercise quite a bit every day to survive, and now we have taken it away, and we are actually causing dysfunction EXERCISE AND ITS EFFECT ON BLOOD SUGAR Inactivity is the foundational piece that has to be there for these diseases to develop What we think is that if that level of activity continues for a prolonged period of time, disease develops Exercise and a healthy diet worked better than the pill.  EFFECT OF EXERCISE ON FAT (WHITE FAT THAT SIT UNDER THE SKIN) Most people know that exercise burns fat. It's the reason most people hit the treadmill in the first place. But fat isn's just a place we park extra calories. The tissue has a lot of other properties. Exercise really makes fat healthier and helps it burn more energy. Exercise shrinks the size of individual fat cells, and the cells develop more energy-producing parts called mitochondria. That means that fat tissue is burning more calories, even at rest. It's not just that fat cells get smaller. EXERCISE, BLOOD VESSELS & BRAIN Exercise also affects the lining of blood vessels, a layer of tissue called the endothelium that's just a single cell thick. When this layer of tissue is damaged, it's easier for dangerous blood clots to form. When the body is inactive, the cells in the endothelium get sluggish and don't sit in the vessel wall properly. But exercise, which causes blood to flow more swiftly and under greater pressure, realigns the cells. About 12 hours after a single bout of exercise, the cells have repositioned themselves to be in line with the flow of blood. This helps blood vessels work better, keeping them open and elastic, rather than stiff, narrow, and clogged. In the brain, recent studies have shown that physical activity makes the brain more connected by bulking up the white matter, the wiring that transmits signals between nerve cells. And older adults who exercise have more gray matter in areas of the brain responsible for self-control, memory, and decision making. Exercise also beats medication for some ailments. In head-to-head tests, it works as well or better than pills for depression. In other conditions, like Alzheimer's and arthritis, it's been shown to delay disability. Level one is just to walk and keep track of your steps. You can do this with a trendy fitness tracker, but even an inexpensive pedometer or a smart phone app will do the trick. Your goal should be at least 8,000 steps a day. Once you are hitting that goal on a regular basis, level two is to do three to five defined exercise sessions each week, with a goal of 30 to 45 minutes of aerobic activity -- like running or pedaling on an elliptical -- each time. Level three is to add a couple of days of resistance training each week. Getting more exercise will make a difference you can feel. Consistently exercising will make you energetic.  "People sleep better when they exercise routinely, and then your body just becomes more efficient"
